We need to change the SATA model to IDE so that you can install a retail version of XP. Steps to change the SATA model to IDEa. Press f10 key after powering on the unit at the HP logo to boot to BIOSb. Select System configuration - Device configurationc. Change the SATA mode to IDEd.
Select File - Save changes and exit - this will allow to boot to windows 2. Insert the WIN-XP CD and restart the unit3. At the HP logo press the 'ENTER' key when prompted to 'press any key to boot from CD' This will start the installation process.In case any partitions created on the drive it would prompt him where he wants to install the OS.I would suggest to format all the partitions available and then continue with the installation. I bought this laptop 2 years ago for 100$ cause I thought I could simply remove the bios password and I would have a nice quick laptop. Well I have dragged it around from place to place cause I have done alot of moving and I am sick of it always being in my way,,, I don't want to throw it out but I can 't get passed that **bleep** password. In the time I have had the laptop trying to figure out how to get it to work I found out the buisness class laptops are a little bit more secure and has an extra eeprom chip before the bios or something,,, someone was telling me there is a way to flash the chip with a jtag, but I don't even know where to start to make that happen.
